CM Khandu thanks PM Modi for approval of major hydro projects

Itanagar, Apr 8: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving two major hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, describing them as a major boost to the state’s development and energy sector.

Reacting to the Cabinet approval of the Rs 26,069 crore Kamala Hydro Electric Project, Khandu said the 1720 MW project would significantly enhance India’s energy security while driving infrastructure growth and generating employment, particularly in remote districts of the state.

He also thanked the Prime Minister for clearing the Rs 14,105 crore Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Anjaw district. The 1200 MW project on the Lohit river, he said, would strengthen power supply, support grid stability, and contribute to overall socio-economic development in the region.

The Chief Minister emphasized that both projects would bring transformative benefits, including improved infrastructure, job creation, and enhanced livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Khandu termed the approvals as a reflection of the Centre’s continued commitment to the development of Arunachal Pradesh and the broader Northeast region.
