Chief Justice launches APSLSA documentaries virtually to promote legal awareness

ITANAGAR, Apr 9: Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court & Patron-in-Chief of Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Justice Ashutosh Kumar on Tuesday virtually launched a series of documentaries produced by the APSLSA in a formal function held at the auditorium of the Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench.

The four short films—Nayi Subah (drug abuse), Umeed Ki Kiran (POCSO-related issues), Roshini Ki Kiran (domestic violence), and Unheard Voices (elder abuse)—aim to raise awareness on key social and legal issues. 

The programme was held in the presence of Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi, Judge, Gauhati HC & Executive Chairman, APSLSA; Justice Kardak Ete, Judge, Gauhati HC & Chairman of Gauhati High Court Legal Services Committee, Itanagar Bench; Advocate General, Addl Advocate General, Secretary (Justice)-cum- Legal Remembrancer, amidst a large gathering of senior Govt officials, judicial officers, advocates, and law students. 

The event was organised by APSLSA under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

In his keynote address, the Chief Justice underscored the role of innovative outreach initiatives like short films in strengthening public engagement with the justice delivery system.

The Executive Chairman of APSLSA emphasized that such short films serve as powerful tools for legal literacy and social awareness by simplifying complex legal issues into relatable narratives and encouraging timely access to legal remedies.

In his welcome address, APSLSA Member Secretary Yomge Ado highlighted the importance of documentaries as an effective medium to connect legal services with the public and promote the objective of “access to justice for all.”

Dr Hirendra Kashyap, District & Sessions Judge and Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, Papum Pare, delivered the vote of thanks.

The initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing public awareness and reinforcing APSLSA’s commitment to ensuring justice for all.
