Training-cum-demonstration program held at Rupa

ITANAGAR, Apr 11: The Department of Agricultural Engineering of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, in collaboration with West Kameng FPC Ltd, conducted a one-day training-cum-demonstration programme at Rupa in West Kameng district on Saturday.

The programme aimed at strengthening linkages between farmers, research institutions, and government agencies. The focus was on showcasing improved agricultural technologies, including women-friendly tools and equipment designed to reduce drudgery and enhance farm income.

The event was attended by around 35 progressive farmers. Attenfing the programme, District Horticulture Officer PN Khrime highlighted the importance of mechanisation in agriculture. He stressed the need for adopting appropriate technologies backed by proper knowledge to improve productivity and efficiency.

Prof KN Dewangan delivered an audio-visual lecture on ergonomically improved hand tools and equipment suited for hilly regions, while Dr S Chhetry conducted live demonstrations of various agricultural tools during the programme.

The programme was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture and Allied Sectors (ESAAS).

Farmers expressed appreciation for the technologies developed under the AICRP-ESAAS at the NERIST centre, including the kiwi vine pruner, Sherpa-mode load-carrying backpack, and the improved NERIST sickle, noting their usefulness in easing labour and improving efficiency in hill farming.
