Army-hosted 2nd edition of Siang Volleyball Tournament concludes on a high note

YINGKIONG, Apr 12: Spear Corps of the Indian Army successfully conducted the 2nd edition of Siang Volleyball Tournament at Tuting in Upper Siang district under the Vibrant Village Programme from April 1 to 11.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local populace, especially the youth, and served as a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and community spirit in this remote border region.

A total of eight men’s and three women’s teams from various parts of the State participated in the tournament. All matches were played with full energy, competitive spirit and discipline, reflecting the growing sporting culture in the region. The tournament provided an excellent platform for young talent to showcase their abilities while fostering healthy competition and mutual respect among the participants.

After several days of intense and closely fought matches, Friendship Tuting (men’s category) and Zido Women (women’s category) emerged victorious. The winning teams demonstrated exceptional coordination, resilience, and determination throughout the tournament and earned appreciation from both the organizers and the spectators.

The event drew significant local engagement, with villagers, youth, and community leaders attending in large numbers to support the teams. The presence of Indian Army personnel alongside the local community further strengthened the bond of trust and cooperation. Such initiatives play a vital role in channelizing the energy of the youth towards constructive activities, while also promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline.

The Siang Volleyball Tournament is part of the Indian Army’s continuous efforts to encourage sports, nurture local talent, and enhance outreach in border areas.
