NIMAS Director calls on Guv, discusses adventure initiatives

Itanagar, Apr 14: The Director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik at Lok Bhavan here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Director presented a comprehensive overview of NIMAS’s ongoing activities, training programmes, and its vision for the future as the state’s premier mountaineering institute.

The Governor, who had recently visited the institute, appreciated the high standards of training infrastructure and its notable achievements in adventure sports. He commended its dedication in nurturing skilled mountaineers and promoting a spirit of adventure among the youth.

Emphasising Arunachal Pradesh’s vast and largely unexplored mountainous terrain, the Governor encouraged NIMAS to undertake systematic expeditions to scale major peaks across the state. He also suggested mapping and developing accessible routes to open up these peaks for mountaineering enthusiasts from across the country, while involving local youth to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of adventure.

Highlighting the institute’s broader role, the Governor further suggested imparting training to youth in other adventure activities such as rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and skiing.

The NIMAS Director assured the Governor of the institute’s continued commitment to excellence, stating that it would expand its outreach, enhance training standards, and further strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s position as a hub for mountaineering and adventure sports.
