Itanagar, Apr 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arunachal Pradesh, on Tuesday solemnly observed the 137th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar at its state party office in Itanagar, with similar programmes held across districts and mandals.
The programme at the state office featured Advocate Chorpok Modi as the resource person. Among those who addressed the gathering were IMC Mayor Likha Nari Tadar, state vice president and programme convenor Tarh Soping, and state general secretary Junty Singpho. Several MLAs, chairmen, morcha heads, and party karyakartas were also present.
In his address, the resource person highlighted Dr Ambedkar’s enduring role as a pillar of Indian democracy and emphasised that the BJP is committed to upholding his vision and ideals. He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s development trajectory is guided by Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision.
He also noted that Dr Ambedkar’s global recognition was strengthened when his 125th birth anniversary was commemorated at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 2016. Highlighting advancements in digital inclusion, he cited the launch of the BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app and the widespread adoption of UPI as milestones that have transformed India’s digital payment ecosystem and promoted financial empowerment.
Speakers further remarked on what they described as the Congress party’s historical failure to adequately recognise Dr Ambedkar’s contributions, including the delay in conferring the Bharat Ratna. They added that the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047 reflects Ambedkar’s aspirations, expressing confidence that the country is progressing in that direction.
State BJP president Kaling Moyong extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion and called upon citizens to honour Dr Ambedkar’s legacy by upholding the values of equality, justice, and unity.
