Strive for excellence, contribute meaningfully to society: Guv to graduates at AU Convocation

Itanagar, Apr 22: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik on Wednesday graced the 6th Convocation of Arunodaya University (AU) at its newly inaugurated Jollang campus here, urging graduating students to strive for excellence and contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.

The Governor, who is also the Visitor of the University, presented gold medals to meritorious students who excelled in their respective disciplines. Deepty Basumatary (MA Geography) received the University Topper Gold Medal, while several departmental toppers were also honoured.

Addressing the graduates, the Governor described them as the future of Arunachal Pradesh and the Nation, and encouraged them to become job creators, innovators, and problem solvers. He urged them “to be responsible in conduct, compassionate in outlook, and proactive in bringing positive change as active partners in building a stronger and more progressive India”.

Emphasizing that education is a lifelong process, the Governor called upon students to remain curious, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning in a rapidly evolving world shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technological advancements. He emphasised that while technology is important, true strength lies in critical thinking, sound character, and the courage to innovate.

He also stressed the need to cultivate a scientific temper and challenged students to become agents of transformation contributing to the development of the state and the nation.

The Governor commended the university management, faculty, and staff for nurturing talent and promoting innovation, and appreciated its social outreach initiatives. He also urged faculty members to go beyond classroom teaching and act as mentors fostering creativity and critical thinking.

Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Arunachal Pradesh, Prof Mohan V Aware, delivered the convocation address. Arunodaya University Vice Chancellor Dr NV Sangvikar presented the annual report and administered the oath to the graduates, while Registrar PS Shinde also addressed the gathering.

A total of 143 graduates, including 31 undergraduates, were conferred degrees during the convocation. Notably, nine out of 11 gold medals were secured by female students.

Gold medals were also awarded to departmental toppers, including Kabak Yarina (Management Studies), Duni Ori (MCom), Gumli Loya (LLM–Legal Studies), Priya Menjo (MA History), Torik Ete (MA English), Nabam Jerma (MA Sociology), Hojum Tamin (BA Sociology), Tongchen Jomba (MA Political Science), Tenzin Yangsel Gurung (BA Political Science), and Gemo Ingo (BA Geography).
