Raga MLA meets NHPC officials, Principal Advisor; raises key issues on Kamala Project

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Raga MLA Rotom Tebin held a series of meetings with senior officials of NHPC Limited in Faridabad and the Principal Advisor to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in New Delhi, raising key issues related to the Kamala Hydroelectric Power Project.

In Faridabad, Tebin met NHPC Director (Projects) S Singh and Director (Finance) Mahesh Sharma, and discussed matters concerning employment opportunities for local people. He stressed the need to prioritise project-affected families and nearby residents in both technical and non-technical roles.

The MLA also highlighted the long-term viability of the project and underscored the strategic importance of the Tamen–Dollungmukh road for timely execution and cost efficiency. He further raised environmental and developmental concerns, particularly challenges arising due to the proximity of the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.

Tebin emphasised the need for effective implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to ensure tangible benefits for local communities. He later expressed gratitude to NHPC for its efforts in facilitating Union Cabinet approval of the project.

Earlier at Arunachal House in New Delhi, the MLA called on the State Govt’s Principal Advisor H R Paliwali, thanking him for his pivotal role in securing approval for the Rs 26,070-crore Kamala Hydropower Project and for actively pursuing hydropower matters with the Centre.

During the meeting, Tebin reiterated concerns regarding employment, CSR implementation, and early construction of the Tamen–Dollungmukh road. Paliwali shared insights on balancing developmental priorities with ecological considerations, given his experience in forest and environmental matters in the State.

The meetings highlight ongoing efforts to ensure inclusive development, timely implementation, and sustainable execution of the Kamala Project in Kamle district.
