Guv completes self-enumeration, urges citizens to join Census 2027

Itanagar, Apr 24: As part of the ongoing Census 2027 process, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik completed his self-enumeration at Lok Bhavan here on Friday, setting an example for citizens to actively participate in the national exercise.

Interacting with officials, the Governor stated that self-enumeration is vital for a credible and inclusive Census, as it enables citizens to contribute directly to nation-building through accurate representation of their family, community and region. He noted that reliable census data forms the foundation for planning schools, hospitals, roads, welfare schemes and development policies.

Describing the exercise as more than a statistical process, the Governor said it is a civic responsibility that helps assess needs, ensure fair allocation of resources and strengthen good governance. He appealed to all citizens to participate sincerely and with awareness.

Urging officials to ensure comprehensive coverage, he emphasized that every household must be counted and every voice heard, with no one left behind. He added that active public participation will play a crucial role in shaping a stronger and more developed India.

A team from the Directorate of Census Operations, Shillong, led by Director Biswajit Pegu, along with officials from the Department of Economics & Statistics headed by Secretary-cum-State Nodal Officer (Census-27) Anu Singh, briefed the Governor on the modalities of the Census.

They informed that the self-enumeration phase under House Listing Operations, which began on April 16, will continue till April 30, 2026, allowing citizens to complete enumeration online. This will be followed by fieldwork from May 1 to May 30, during which enumerators will visit households for data collection.

Among others present on the occasion were State IT Secretary Dr Sonal Swaroop, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Itanagar Capital Region, Toko Babu, and Economics & Statistics Director Bebing Megu.
