HAYULIANG, Apr 24: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Anjaw observed National Panchayati Raj Day with a one-day awareness programme on balanced fertilizer use and sustainable nutrient management at Khupaliang on Friday. The programme saw participation from 21 farmers, farm women and rural youth, along with Gram Panchayat representatives from Cherang and Tafraliang villages.
In his welcome address, SMS (Agril Economics) Soibam Peter Singh highlighted the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in empowering rural communities and strengthening decentralized governance. He also stressed the importance of scientific interventions in improving agricultural productivity while maintaining soil health.
During the technical session, SMS (Agronomy) Kh Naveen spoke on balanced fertilizer use and integrated nutrient management, emphasising the judicious application of organic and inorganic inputs to ensure sustainable crop production and soil fertility. He also cautioned against the adverse effects of excessive fertilizer use.
Another session by SMS (Horticulture) Satveer Yadav focused on vermicomposting and its practical applications, demonstrating how organic waste can be converted into nutrient-rich compost to enhance soil health and crop yield.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Keshab Ch Gogoi, followed by an interactive session where participants shared experiences and clarified queries on fertilizer use and organic farming.
Participants appreciated the initiative, noting that it effectively combined awareness on sustainable agriculture with the spirit of grassroots democracy.
