NHRC Special Monitor meets Guv, reviews human rights scenario

ITANAGAR, Apr 24: Special Monitor of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Balkrishan Goel, met Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar on Saturday.

During the meeting, both dignitaries discussed their shared commitment to promoting human dignity, protecting rights, and ensuring inclusive social well-being across the State.

The Governor apprised the NHRC Special Monitor of the prevailing human rights scenario in Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the State’s strong tribal ethos, community-based traditions, and harmonious social fabric, which continue to uphold dignity, mutual respect, and social responsibility.

He also outlined various initiatives undertaken by the State Government, along with the contributions of non-governmental organizations, in advancing the welfare and protection of children and elderly citizens.

Emphasizing the need for sustained outreach, the Governor suggested regular awareness campaigns across the State to strengthen safeguards, sensitize communities, and reinforce welfare mechanisms for vulnerable sections of society.

Goel, who serves as the NHRC Special Monitor for Child Rights and Elderly Citizens, briefed the Governor on areas requiring greater attention and focused intervention, particularly in strengthening protection frameworks and improving support systems for those in need.
