PASIGHAT, Apr 25: Waging war against illegal drug cultivation, the Adi Ba:ne Ane Kebang (ABAK), East Siang District Unit in collaboration with District Police and Anti-Drug Teams of Kiyit and Ngopok successfully destructed a large-scale cannabis plantation across multiple villages in East Siang district.
The joint operation was conducted in two phases, covering Seram, Kongkul, and Namsing villages in the first, followed by Ngopok, Kiyit, and Borguli villages on Saturday under Mebo subdivision. During the drive, teams identified and uprooted a significant number of illegally cultivated cannabis plants, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse in the region.
ABAK president Miti Perme, speaking on the initiative, stated that prior information about the drive had been disseminated across the targeted villages to ensure community cooperation. She commended the Anti-Drug Teams for their discipline and active support throughout the operation.
Issuing a stern warning, Perme emphasized that strict regulations are being enforced, and any individual found involved in illegal cultivation or non-compliance with the rules will face penalties.
Highlighting that the campaign is part of a sustained effort, and to strengthen it, she informed that coordination meetings will be held monthly to enhance strategies and community engagement against drug abuse.
The initiative stands as a significant example of unity between community-based organizations and law enforcement agencies, sending a clear message against drug-related activities while encouraging public participation in building a safer, drug-free society.
