NHRC Spl Monitor reviews healthcare, child and elderly welfare in Ziro Valley

Ziro, Apr 27: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Special Monitor for Child Rights and Elderly Citizens, Balkrishan Goel, conducted a comprehensive four-stage assessment of social and healthcare infrastructure in Ziro Valley on Monday.

The assessment commenced at the Suluya Anganwadi Centre, where he reviewed the implementation of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), focusing on nutritional support and early childhood education to safeguard the rights of children and mothers.

He later inspected Gyati Takka General Hospital, examining critical facilities such as the Dialysis Unit, ICU, and CT scan services. Emphasizing inclusive healthcare, Goel advocated for prioritised and elder-friendly service protocols, alongside strengthening digital health and telemedicine initiatives.

Extending his review to the grassroots level, Goel interacted with elderly residents in Hari and Bamin Michi villages to assess their living conditions and awareness of social security entitlements.

The visit concluded at the Achu Kuru Welfare Society-run Child Care Institute (CCI) and Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA), where he evaluated institutional care standards and adoption protocols to ensure the protection and welfare of children in need.

The assessment forms part of NHRC’s ongoing efforts to monitor and uphold the rights of vulnerable sections, including children and senior citizens, across the country.
