IEC campaign on waste segregation launched in Daporijo

Daporijo, Apr 27: An Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign on waste segregation was launched by the Urban Development Department in Daporijo with the aim of creating awareness on proper waste management practices among residents.

The campaign was led by Assistant Engineer of the Urban Development Department, Tate Nalo, along with Town Magistrate Ama Nungnu Mara. The initiative comes in response to the growing volume of waste generation in the township, which has raised serious environmental and public health concerns.

The District Administration, in collaboration with the UD and Housing Department, has engaged “Safai Mitras” to carry out door-to-door awareness activities across the town.

The campaign commenced from DST Colony, where officials and Safai Mitras interacted with residents and emphasized the importance of segregating waste at source into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories. Proper segregation, officials said, is essential for maintaining cleanliness, protecting the environment, and ensuring a healthier living space.

As part of the drive, Safai Mitras are visiting households to educate citizens on responsible waste disposal practices and the long-term benefits of community participation in waste management.

The department has appealed to all residents of Daporijo to cooperate and actively take part in the initiative, making cleanliness and environmental protection a shared responsibility. (DIPRO)
