PASIGHAT, Apr 27: The Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU), while claiming that the CCTV network installed under the Smart City Pasighat project has become completely non-operational, has urged the East Siang Deputy Commissioner for early restoration of the non-functional CCTV surveillance system in the township.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, the Union stated that the CCTV network installed under the Smart City Pasighat project has become completely non-operational. According to AdiSU, this situation poses a serious threat to public safety and undermines effective law enforcement in the district headquarters.

The AdiSU, the apex students’ body of the community, highlighted several key concerns, including the absence of active surveillance contributing to an increase in criminal activities and complicating traffic management. It also pointed out obstacles in criminal investigations, citing a recent fatal road accident involving a student where the lack of CCTV footage delayed the identification of the responsible vehicle.

The Union also raised concerns regarding the lack of accountability in the maintenance, monitoring, and overall management of the Smart City infrastructure.

Meanwhile, AdiSU president Tani Tapo and general secretary Dolen Saring, along with executive members, submitted the appeal in what they described as being in the “larger public interest.” They emphasized that a functional CCTV system is essential for crime prevention, timely investigation, and the maintenance of law and order.

Moreover, the Union urged the district administration to treat the matter with utmost priority in order to mitigate risks to public safety.
