ITANAGAR, Apr 28: The Kurung Kumey District Frontier Highway Development-cum-Vigilance Forum has opposed the proposed handover of the Sarli–Huri stretch of the Frontier Highway to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club here, the Forum chairman Likam Bai alleged that BRO’s execution of infrastructure projects in the region over the past two decades has fallen short of public expectations and caused considerable damage.
Citing concerns such as poor work execution, destruction of natural topography and reported incidents leading to the death of domesticated animals, Bai stressed that such issues highlight the need for more accountable and environmentally sensitive implementation of development projects in the region.
The Forum urged the authorities concerned to reconsider the proposal and appealed to the state government to entrust the project to the State Public Works Department (PWD).
The Forum also informed that a formal representation has been submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office, seeking intervention in the matter.
