Support grows for SUMP as 63 more Likor residents submit consent

YINGKIONG, Apr 29: In a significant boost to the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities of the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), 63 more residents of Likor village in Upper Siang district submitted their consent on Wednesday at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Yingkiong.

The list of consenting families was formally handed over to Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang by Ombeng Danggen on behalf of the villagers. The event was attended by Vice President of the SUMP Development Committee (SUMPDC), Lumgeng Litin, former ABK President Tadum Libang, and several Project Affected Families (PAFs).

With this latest submission, the number of families from Likor village supporting the PFR activities has risen to 134. Of these, 53 families are currently residing in Yingkiong township, while only four households are yet to extend their consent—indicating near-unanimous support within the village.

Speaking on the occasion, former ABK President Tadum Libang lauded the people of Likor for their courage and willingness to support the government’s developmental initiative.

Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang, in his address, appreciated the proactive and forward-looking approach of the villagers in supporting the initiative. He also briefed the PAFs on various aspects of the PFR process, addressing their concerns and reiterating that the survey activities are aimed solely at assessing feasibility and would not have any immediate environmental impact.
