National seminar on the Northeast dev concludes at Doimukh College

DOIMUKH, Apr 29: A two-day multidisciplinary national seminar on “Development Strategies for North East India with Special Reference to Arunachal Pradesh: Potential, Priority Areas, Concerns and Way Forward” concluded at Government College Doimukh on Wednesday.

Organised by the Department of Geography with support from the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, the seminar brought together academicians, researchers, and scholars from across the region to deliberate on key developmental challenges and opportunities.

The inaugural session was graced by resource person Tomo Riba, former Vice-Chancellorof Arunachal Pradesh University, and keynote speaker Tage Rupa Sora of the Department of Geography, RGU, along with other dignitaries. An ISBN book on the seminar theme, edited by Liyo Nyodu and Dipak Sharma, was also released on the occasion.

Speakers highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s potential in hydropower, biodiversity, agriculture, and cultural resources, while also drawing attention to challenges such as difficult terrain, limited industrialisation, and environmental concerns. The need for research-driven and inclusive development strategies was emphasized.

The technical sessions saw 17 paper presentations covering diverse themes including indigenous knowledge, climate change, women’s empowerment, tourism, and sustainable livelihoods.

The seminar concluded with a valedictory session where Dr Himadri Dutta was awarded the Best Paper Presenter. Certificates were distributed to participants, and the organisers expressed hope that the deliberations would contribute to informed policy-making and regional development.
