Itanagar Police cracks down on drug network; key supplier arrested in Assam

Itanagar, May 2: In a sustained, intelligence-led crackdown under “Operation All Out”, the Itanagar Police has intensified action against drug peddling, transportation, and distribution of narcotic substances across the Capital Region.

Over the past one and a half months, police has registered six heroin-related cases under the NDPS Act, arrested six accused peddlers/carriers, and seized approximately 120 grams of suspected heroin from various locations in Itanagar.

Investigations revealed a consistent pattern indicating that the contraband was allegedly sourced from Assam and trafficked into Itanagar through inter-state networks. Based on sustained interrogation, technical surveillance, and linkage analysis, police identified one of the key suspected suppliers as Ruful Amin (31), a resident of Kekokali Nepali in Sonitpur district, Assam.

Acting on this intelligence, Itanagar Police, in coordination with Jamuguri Police, conducted a joint operation on Saturday and successfully apprehended the accused from Jamuguri. An intermediate quantity of suspected heroin was recovered from his possession, leading to the registration of a separate case at Jamuguri Police Station.

Police officials stated that the case registered in Assam is a direct outcome of the intelligence developed by Itanagar Police and highlights the effectiveness of inter-state coordination in tackling narcotics networks.

The operation underscores the strategic focus of Itanagar Police not only on arresting local peddlers but also on identifying and dismantling supply chains at their source, including those operating beyond the state’s jurisdiction.

Reiterating its commitment, Itanagar Police stated that it will continue to pursue intelligence-based policing, strengthen inter-state cooperation, and take sustained legal action to curb the menace of drug trafficking.
