AALO, May 2: Sports Minister Kenjo Jini and MLA Topin Ete kicked off the 3rd State level Jambey Tashi Memorial Tug-of-War Championship 2026 here on Friday.
Organized by the Arunachal Tug of War Association (ATWA) and hosted by the West Siang District Tug of War Association and West Siang District Olympic Association in collaboration with the West Siang District Administration, the championship is recognized by the Department of Sports GoAP, Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) and Sport Authority of Arunachal Pradesh (SAA), under the affiliation of the Tug of War Federation of India (TWFI).
In all, 14 districts are participating in the three-day championship, which is being conducted in three categories – men’s 620 kg, women’s 500 kg and mixed 580 kg.
The Minister, while paying tribute to late Jambey Tashi, assured to give “full” support for successful completion of the competition.
The competition started in the year 2023 under the able leadership of Late Jambey Tashi, stated ATWA president NL Kamin.
The opening ceremony, which began with a homage to Late Jambey Tashi by the dignitaries, was attended by West Siang DC Mindo Loyi, Brigadier Ritesh Katoch, SM Commander 5 Infantry Brigade, members of ATWA, HoDs of West Siang district, and Drema Choikey Kee, daughter of Late Jambey Tashi and Yuva Arunachal president.
