L/Subansiri launches 7th round of FMD vaccination drive in Ziro

Ziro, May 2: The Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Lower Subansiri district, on Saturday launched the 7th biannual round of the FMD vaccination programme at the Siiro Dairy Development Farm in Ziro. The campaign will continue until July 16, 2026.

The initiative forms part of the Govt of India’s nationwide mission to eradicate Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) by 2030. The launch programme was attended by SDO Hage Tarung, Zilla Parishad members, and other local representatives.

District Veterinary Officer Dr Bamin Tacho, along with SDO Tarung, emphasized that free vaccination remains the most effective safeguard against major livestock diseases often termed as “socio-economic diseases,” including FMD, Classical Swine Fever (CSF), and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), which frequently impact the livelihoods of rural farmers.

To ensure maximum coverage, local leaders Hibu Obing and Kago Kampu assured full cooperation in mobilizing public participation through Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) platforms. The administration also called upon Panchayat members and Gaon Buras to actively spread awareness and encourage farmers to avail the free vaccination services.
