Itanagar, May 3: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed Arunachal Niwas at Dheerpur in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in the State Government’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure for the welfare of its citizens travelling outside the state.
With this addition, Arunachal Pradesh now has its fourth property in the national capital, reflecting the government’s sustained efforts to expand facilities for its people. Similar establishments have been developed in cities such as Guwahati, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Bodh Gaya, Bengaluru, and Mumbai to provide accommodation and essential services.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister congratulated all stakeholders involved in the project and highlighted the importance of such facilities in ensuring convenience for citizens, particularly patients seeking medical treatment and students visiting Delhi for academic purposes. He noted that the new Arunachal Niwas includes dedicated provisions for patients, making it especially beneficial for those requiring medical care in the capital.
Emphasising its strategic location near the North Campus area, Khandu said the facility would serve as a valuable support system for students from Arunachal Pradesh during university admission periods by offering safe and accessible accommodation.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, he informed that a comprehensive review of newly created districts including Pakke-Kessang, Kamle, Leparada, Shi-Yomi, among others has been scheduled to assess infrastructure gaps and manpower requirements. Similar reviews will also be undertaken for older districts to ensure balanced and inclusive development across the state.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the continued support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India in strengthening infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. He stated that under the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, the state has received approximately Rs 4,900 crore to bridge critical infrastructure gaps and accelerate development initiatives.
Highlighting the need for efficient management, Khandu advised exploring sustainable revenue generation models to ensure long-term operational viability of such facilities.
Spread across 2,600 square metres with a built-up area of 7,198 square metres, the G+8 building features eight dormitories with six beds each, 18 double-bedded rooms, 35 twin-bedded rooms, six specially designed accessible rooms, a separate staff dormitory, office space, basement and multi-level parking, a medical room, and a spacious dining hall.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, cabinet colleagues, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, senior officials, and members of the Arunachal Pradesh community in Delhi.
The Arunachal Niwas at Dheerpur stands as a testament to the state government’s vision of extending support, accessibility, and care for its people beyond state boundaries.
