Landslides damage power infrastructure, disrupt electricity supply in Khonsa & nearby areas

Khonsa, May 3: Several 33 kV and 11 kV power lines under the Khonsa Electrical Sub-Division were severely damaged following heavy landslides and strong windstorms that lashed the region on Saturday night, disrupting electricity supply in Khonsa and adjoining areas.

According to information received from the Assistant Engineer (Power), Khonsa Division, the affected infrastructure includes 33 kV and 11 kV lines in Khonsa township, the 33 kV line at Pansumthong, and the 11 kV line at Hollam. The landslides reportedly washed away multiple electric poles, causing extensive damage to the power distribution network.

Officials stated that restoration work is currently underway. However, continuous heavy rainfall across Tirap district has significantly hampered repair efforts, making access to several damaged locations difficult for field personnel.

The department informed that power supply lines under the Khonsa Electrical Sub-Division have been completely damaged at multiple points due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions. Authorities have estimated that restoration of electricity may take around three to four days, subject to improvement in weather conditions.

The Power Department has appealed to the public to bear with the department for the inconvenience, assuring that all possible efforts are being made to restore normal power supply at the earliest. (DIPRO)
