Mein inaugurates Abhedananda Bhavan at Ramakrishna Mission, Narottam Nagar

Itanagar, May 4: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Abhedananda Bhavan, a four-storeyed boys’ hostel, at Ramakrishna Mission Narottam Nagar in Tirap district.

The event marked a significant milestone for the institution, representing the first major step towards replacing ageing NEFA-era hostel infrastructure and reinforcing the Mission’s long-standing commitment to education, character-building, and tribal welfare in the state.

The programme, featuring ribbon cutting, plaque unveiling, and a public meeting, was presided over by Swami Gautamananda, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.

Among the dignitaries present were Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, Environment & Forest Minister Wangki Lowang, and MLA Wanglin Lowangdong, along with senior district officials, PRI leaders, and representatives from across the country.

As part of the ceremony, Minister Sona inaugurated the hostel lift, while the indoor sports facility was jointly inaugurated by Wangki Lowang and Wanglin Lowangdong, reflecting the institution’s focus on holistic development.

The public meeting, held at Vivekananda Sabhagriha, began with ceremonial lamp lighting and Vedic chanting. In his welcome address, Swami Achyuteshanandaji, Secretary of the Mission, expressed gratitude to the State Government and submitted a proposal seeking sanction for a 200-bedded boys’ hostel and 64 staff quarters to replace ageing infrastructure.

In his address, Mein lauded the Mission’s disciplined environment and its role in shaping generations of professionals, including technocrats, doctors, entrepreneurs, and civil servants. Reaffirming government support, he announced the sanction of the proposed 200-bedded hostel for junior boys along with 64 staff quarters, which was warmly received by the gathering.

Other speakers also addressed the gathering, encouraging students to uphold values and draw inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Several dignitaries shared personal experiences and emphasised the institution’s contribution to education in the region.

In his benedictory address, Swami Gautamananda reflected on his association with Arunachal Pradesh since 1970s, recalling the sincerity and warmth of students from the region. Even at 98, he continues to inspire generations and remains deeply respected among his former students.

Earlier on Sunday, the building was consecrated with traditional rituals including Gita Yajna and Japa Yajna, followed by a conference attended by around 500 well-wishers. Nearly 70 monks from across the country also participated and are scheduled to engage with youth during a convention on May 5.

The inauguration of Abhedananda Bhavan stands as a symbol of the Ramakrishna Mission’s enduring commitment to nation-building through education, values, and selfless service.
