PASIGHAT, May 5: Under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, East Siang Police successfully arrested an alleged drug peddler at Pasighat today and recovered suspected heroin and ganja from his possession.
Acting on credible information regarding illegal trafficking of narcotic substances, a police team led by ADS IC Ayup Boko, L/Inspr Amum Panyang, SI K Tangha, SI Kodak Dagium, Cts S Modi, N Tayeng, Thomas Panyang, and C Ejing along with a L/Ct placed a ‘Naka’ and intercepted one Maklung Tayeng, S/o Bising Tayeng, Mebo, East Siang from a Night Super (bus) while travelling to Pasighat, in presence of executive magistrate Sanjay Taram (SDO).
Later, body search was conducted and suspected heroin weighing 1.49 gm and ganja weighing 3.12 gm were found.
The seized contraband was properly weighed, packed, sealed, and documented as per legal provisions. The entire operation was videographed to ensure transparency.
Besides apprehending the accused, all seized items have been handed over to the Pasighat police station for further legal proceedings.
Accordingly, PSGT/PS/C/No 45/26 under Section 21(a)/20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, East Siang Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba has commended the efforts of the entire team and ADS, reiterating the district police’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any illicit activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital in achieving a drug-free East Siang. (DIPRO)
