Power disruption likely in several Arunachal districts from May 7

ITANAGAR, May 5: The Arunachal Pradesh State Load Despatch Centre (APSLDC) has informed that power supply across several districts of the state is likely to be affected for about 8–10 days beginning May 7 due to damage caused to a key transmission line.

The disruption follows severe damage to towers A and D at Location No. 30 of a 132 kV transmission line owned by the Power Grid Corporation of India. The damage occurred between the Hoj Power House of Panyor Hydro Electric Plant and Ziro 132/33 KV Sub-Station, near Posa village in Keyi Panyor district, due to heavy winds triggered by a localized cyclonic condition on April 25.

Authorities have warned that immediate repair is necessary to prevent further structural failure and possible cascading impact on adjoining towers. Accordingly, the North Eastern Regional Power Committee has approved a continuous shutdown of the transmission line to facilitate restoration work.

During this period, districts including Keyi Panyor, Kra Dadi, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Kamle, Upper Subansiri, Lepa Rada, Lower Siang, West Siang, Siang, and East Siang are expected to face disruptions in the form of load shedding and low voltage.

Officials stated that alternative grid supply will be managed through the Kathalguri–Namsai and Chapakua–Roing transmission lines. However, due to the extended distance and radial nature of these connections, substations may experience low voltage, potentially requiring load shedding on 33 kV feeders or, in extreme cases, shutdown of outgoing feeders from major substations such as Yachuli, Ziro, Daporijo, Basar, Aalo, and Pasighat.

The APSLDC, on behalf of the Department of Power, has appealed to consumers for cooperation and patience during the repair period, citing the disruption as unavoidable due to natural calamity.
