Man stabbed to death in Tawang; accused arrested within hours

Itanagar, May 5: A 36-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following a heated altercation in Tawang, with police arresting the accused within hours of the incident.

According to police, information was received late on May 4 that one Pema Wangchu (25), a resident of Dungse under Jang sub-division, had fatally attacked Akash Lama (36), a native of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal, who had been residing in Tawang for several years.

Acting swiftly, a police team led by DySP Tasso Kato, along with Tawang Police Station Officer-In-Charge L/Insp Niyi Angu and other personnel, rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused in the early hours of May 5 under the close supervision of Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang.

During the investigation, the weapon of offence, a dagger, reportedly belonging to the victim, was recovered from the Nehru Market area. CCTV footage from near the Post Office at Nehru Market captured the altercation between the two individuals.

Police said both the accused and the victim were taxi drivers and had known each other for several years. A case has been registered at Tawang Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway, the SP said.
