Itanagar, May 5: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Namsai Police has arrested two alleged accused and seized a total of 57 grams of suspected heroin in two separate operations carried out within a span of 12 days.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley. According to police, the first raid was carried out on March 20 at an abandoned rented premises near 2nd Mile in Namsai. During the operation, one Sujita Kungkung was apprehended and approximately 15 grams of suspected heroin, concealed in a soap case, was recovered from her possession.
In a follow-up operation on April 2, acting on further intelligence inputs, police intercepted a vehicle (Suzuki Ignis, AR-20A-5547) along the Solungtoo Highway. The occupant, identified as Chow Pingta Choutang, was arrested and around 41 grams of suspected heroin, also concealed in soap cases, was recovered from the vehicle’s centre console.
Police stated that all seizures were conducted following due legal procedures in the presence of independent witnesses and documented through the e-Sakshya system. Cases have been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
The operations were led by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team under DySP Kengo Dirchi, along with SDPO Namsai and other police personnel.
Further investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages in the drug network. Namsai Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information on illegal drug activities to help build a drug-free society.
