YINGKIONG, May 6: In a significant step towards the development of proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), altogether 134 residents from Migging, Panggo and Moshing villages in Upper Siang district signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) supporting the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed at the Migging circle headquarters between the state government, represented by Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang, and pro-PFR families from the three villages.
According to officials, 39 families from Panggo, 50 from Migging and 45 from Moshing village extended their support, taking the overall support for PFR activities in the area to around 80 percent.
Representing the villagers, Paset Panyi (Panggo), Gebong Lonchung (Migging) and Kutchi Tali (Moshing) signed the agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by MLA of Tuting-Yingkiong constituency and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Alo Libang, along with senior officials including Chief Engineer K Perme, State Nodal Officer (SUMP) Er Atek Miyu, and Under Secretary (Hydropower) Toli Karga, among others.
As part of efforts to bring governance to the doorstep of the people, the Deputy Commissioner, along with the district administration team visited Migging to facilitate the MoU signing process and engage directly with villagers.
Addressing the gathering, DC Talo Jerang elaborated on the objectives of the PFR exercise, clarifying that it involves preliminary studies and assuring that the process would be conducted with transparency and public participation.
MLA Libang also interacted with villagers, addressing their concerns and assuring continued support while emphasizing that the public would be kept informed throughout the process.
The event witnessed participation from over 200 villagers, including Project Affected Families (PAFs), along with local leaders such as District BJP president Ojing Peyang and general secretary Tago Jijong.
Appreciating the villagers’ support, officials described the initiative as a reflection of the community’s aspirations for development and progress.
