ITANAGAR, May 6: The three-day peaceful sit-in staged by Arunachal Civil Society at the IG Park Tennis Court here concluded on Wednesday.
The Society has been demanding stepping down of Chief Minister Pema Khandu from his post to ensure free and fair (preliminary) inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged irregularities in the award of contract works, as directed by the Supreme Court of India.
ACS chairman Byabang Joram reiterated that their movement is not politically motivated. “We are not connected with any political party. We are demanding CM’s resignation so that there could be free and fair investigation. Otherwise it is not possible,” he said.
Members from various groups participated in the dharna, which remained peaceful.
The ACS warned of further democratic movement provided its demand is not addressed.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu denied any involvement regarding the contract work allegations and welcomed the CBI inquiry.
“I have no involvement whatsoever in this case. I am so confident that I have not even engaged a personal lawyer to represent me at the Supreme Court,” Khandu said, adding that there was “no reason to worry”.
