SCCZ hosts ‘Commencement Ceremony’

ZIRO, May 6: Saint Claret College (Autonomous), Ziro hosted its “Commencement Ceremony” for the Claretine Class of 2026 on Wednesday, celebrating the graduation of 265 undergraduate students under the theme “Launching to Life.”

The ceremony, held at the college auditorium, was presided over by Toko Tatung, MLA of the Yachuli Assembly Constituency. Principal Dr (Fr) Allwyn Mendoz administered the commencement pledge, with graduates vowing to uphold the values instilled by the institution and serve society as responsible citizens.

On the occasion, 90 students received scholarships and awards amounting to Rs 5.33 lakh. These included the Fr Tomy Scholarship, SCCZ Academic Awards, Single Step Foundation Scholarship, SCCZ Saju-Bindu Scholarship, SCCZ Residential Scholarship, SCCZ Academic Scholarships, SCCZ Edacheriparambil ME Memorial Scholarship, Gigi-Mini Scholarship, Nirmala Frank Xavier Scholarship, Tiny Miracles Scholarship, along with scholarships from donor clans such as Habung, Lod, and Kuru.

Addressing the gathering, Tatung urged the graduates to face life’s challenges with purpose, integrity, and courage. Emphasizing the competitive nature of the modern world, he described graduation as “just the beginning” and encouraged students to pursue meaningful goals that contribute positively to society. He also highlighted integrity as a rare yet essential virtue and called upon students to become agents of change.

In his address, Principal Fr Allwyn noted that challenges faced during academic life help build resilience and character. He encouraged students to apply their learning beyond the classroom and embrace uncertainty as a path to growth. Reaffirming the institution’s commitment to holistic education, he concluded with the message, “Once a Claretine, always a Claretine.”

Delivering the valedictorian address, Yiyum Boje from the Department of History reflected on the shared memories and learning experiences of the graduating batch.
