‘Ayi Ke Ekum’ celebrates its 3rd foundation day

PASIGHAT, May 6: The 3rd foundation day of Ayi Ke Ekum, a Day Care Centre for senior citizens, was celebrated at the EngoTakar Dere premises here today, with active participation from elderly members and well-wishers.

Ayi Ke Ekum is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the care and well-being of senior citizens aged 70 years and above, particularly those who are no longer socially active.

The initiative primarily supports elderly individuals who are often left alone at home as their family members are away for work. While these elders belong to respectable families and are not destitute, many face loneliness and a lack of daily companionship. Ayi Ke Ekum strives to provide them with a nurturing space where they can interact, share their experiences, feel heard and valued.

The centre aims to create a warm and inclusive atmosphere that promotes emotional connection, dignity, and a sense of belonging.

Over the years, Ayi Ke Ekum has remained committed to enhancing the quality of life of the elderly by focusing on their physical, emotional, and social well-being in a safe and supportive environment.

A total of 36 elderly members attended the celebration.

During the interaction, the attendees expressed their appreciation for the initiative and emphasized the urgent need for a permanent infrastructure for the centre. At present, the organization does not have its own permanent facility, which limits its ability to expand services and accommodate more beneficiaries.

In this regard, Ayi Ke Ekum has appealed to kind-hearted individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to come forward and extend support in any possible manner, including assistance towards establishing a permanent structure for the centre. (DIPRO)
