ITANAGAR, May 9: The 2nd National Lok Adalat of this year was conducted in various subordinate courts of the State by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), in which over 212 cases were disposed off, out of total 1563 taken up cases (both pre-litigation and pending stage) with the total settlement amount of Rs 3,84,48,167.31 on a single day sitting by the respective courts in the State.
As many as 25 benches constituted in the District & Session Courts of Bomdila, Pasighat, Tezu, Yupia, Aalo, Basar, Additional District & Session Court Basar, Courts of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bomdila, Seppa, Pasighat, Ziro, Tezu, Changlang, Daporijo, Yupia, Aalo and Judicial Magistrate First Class of Tawang, Pangin, Yingkiong, Koloriang, Longding, Anini, Yupia, Namsai, Khonsa took up the listed cases.
Lok Adalat, one of the alternate dispute redressal mechanisms, is conducted in a single sitting to ease the burden of the pending cases and to reduce the burden of the courts. It is a forum where the disputes or cases at pre-litigation and pending stage are settled amicably by two or more disputing parties mutually. There is no court fee payable when a matter is filed in a Lok Adalat.
Legal authorities noted that the one-day exercise contributed to quicker dispute resolution and reinforced public access to justice through informal, conciliatory means.
