NIRJULI, May 10: The Department of Civil Engineering at North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli organised a special lecture on “Experience and Insights on Road Safety, Injury Prevention and Trauma Care” at its seminar hall on Saturday.
The lecture was delivered by the President of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Guwahati, B K S Sanjay, a noted orthopaedic surgeon, road safety advocate, and author of the road safety book ‘Bharat Mein Sadak Durghatnayen’.
During the session, Prof Sanjay shared his extensive experience and valuable insights on road safety awareness, prevention of road traffic injuries, and trauma care. He highlighted that most road accidents occur due to human errors such as over-speeding, mobile phone use while driving, sleepy driving, and fatigue caused by continuous driving.
Using real-life traffic accident scenarios, he stressed the importance of responsible driving habits and timely trauma care in reducing fatalities and injuries on roads.
The programme witnessed active participation from faculty members, staff, students, and research scholars of the institute.
Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Prof Dipika Devi, welcomed the speaker and participants, while Dr Dibyendu Pal, Associate Professor of the department, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion session where participants engaged with the speaker on various aspects of road safety, injury prevention, and trauma care.
