Police warns strict action against bars, nightclubs violating closing hours

ITANAGAR, May 11: The Itanagar Police has decided to enforce strict action against bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and other establishments violating the prescribed closing hours under the 2021 regulation order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

The announcement was made by Itanagar SDPO Chera Sawan in a press conference held at the Itanagar Police Station on Monday.

Sawan stated that although enforcement had earlier been affected due to shortage of manpower and other operational constraints, police would now intensify monitoring of bars, DJ nights, restaurants, and similar establishments across the ICR. Meetings will also be conducted with owners and members of their associations to ensure compliance with the regulations.

“As per the existing order, all bars and restaurants must close by 12 midnight. Customers should also cooperate and voluntarily leave the premises before the stipulated time. If any violation is detected during checking, legal action will be initiated against both the establishment owner and the customers,” the SDPO warned.

Highlighting concerns over drink-and-drive incidents, Sawan said many road accidents and other untoward incidents in the ICR occur due to late-night drinking and reckless driving.

“Several people have even lost their lives in such incidents. We are not stopping anyone from visiting bars or attending DJ nights. Our only request is to maintain the prescribed timing,” he added.

The SDPO further said that the move is aimed at ensuring public safety and curbing illegal activities, including prostitution and other unlawful practices linked to late-night operations.

He appealed to citizens, business owners, and customers to cooperate with the police in implementing the regulations effectively.
