Nurses Day celebrated with enthusiasm at Tawang

Tawang, May 12: Khandro Drowa Sangmo Nursing School, Tawang celebrated International Nurses Day with great enthusiasm and heartfelt appreciation during a special programme held at the conference hall of KDS District Hospital on Tuesday.

The celebration, themed “Our Nurses, Our Future – Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” highlighted the invaluable contribution of nurses in strengthening healthcare services and saving lives through compassion, dedication and tireless service.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Sonam Nordzin, ZPM Tawang, praised nurses for their selfless service and compassionate care. “On this Nurses Day, we celebrate the incredible compassion, kindness and dedication that nurses bring to every life they touch. A nurse’s gentle care, humility and down-to-earth nature make all the difference in healing and comforting others,” she said.

Captain Nisha from the Military Nursing Services of the Indian Army spoke about career opportunities for aspiring nurses in the Army, Navy and Air Force. She guided students on the enrolment process for MNS and encouraged young nursing trainees to pursue careers in the armed forces, assuring them of full support and mentorship.

Acknowledging the relentless dedication of nurses, Col Manoj Gopal, Commanding Officer of Army Hospital Teli, said: “Nurses care for patients round the clock, and their services make healthcare better.”

Dr Tenzin Kunga, Medical Superintendent of KDS District Hospital, described nursing as a profession rooted in compassion and humanity.

“In the medical profession, the first contact with a patient is often a nurse. If a nurse builds a good rapport with the patient, everything becomes smooth and easier for the doctor. A patient’s treatment begins and ends with a compassionate nurse,” he said.

Members of the Women’s Welfare Association, Tawang, distributed gifts to faculty members, nurses and student nurses as a token of appreciation for their dedicated service.

The celebration also saw active participation from the on-duty nursing staff of KDS District Hospital, who marked the occasion by cutting cakes and exchanging greetings in the indoor patients department.

The programme began with a welcome address by Principal In-charge of KDS Govt Nursing School, Koncho Tsering. Earlier, trainee nurses were administered the nursing oath, and ceremonial lamps were lit before the portrait of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. International Nurses Day is observed globally every year on May 12 to commemorate her birth anniversary.

The event concluded on a heartfelt note, paying tribute to the unwavering dedication, compassion and service of nurses toward society and humanity. (DIPRO)
