Guv extends Etor Gidi greetings

Itanagar, May 14: Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik has extended warm greetings to the people of the state, especially members of the Adi community, on the eve of the latter's traditional agro-based festival, Etor Gidi.

In his message, the Governor expressed hope that the age-old celebration would continue to preserve indigenous customs, traditional wisdom and cultural values while strengthening social harmony and cultural identity among the younger generations.

Describing Etor Gidi as one of the most cherished agricultural festivals of the Adi tribe, the Governor said the festival reflects the deep bond between humanity, nature and community life. Celebrated at the onset of the farming season, the festival symbolises unity, collective responsibility and the spirit of cooperation among the people.

He noted that the traditional practice of repairing and strengthening fences around agricultural fields during the festival beautifully demonstrates the values of mutual support and shared commitment towards community welfare.

The Governor also highlighted that the festival showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Adi community through traditional rituals, prayers, vibrant Delong dance performances and communal gatherings at the Dere or Musup (traditional village community hall or dormitory).

He expressed confidence that the festival would continue to inspire people to uphold the timeless values of unity, hard work and harmony with nature.

Wishing prosperity and happiness to all, the Governor prayed that the vibrant festival may bring good health, abundant harvests and peace to every household across the state.
