Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls to be conducted in Arunachal from June 15

ITANAGAR, May 14: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls will be conducted in Arunachal Pradesh as part of Phase-III of the nationwide revision exercise aimed at ensuring accuracy and transparency in voter lists.

According to a press note issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Arunachal Pradesh, the SIR exercise in the State will be conducted along with Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh with the qualifying date fixed as July 1, 2026.

The preparation, training and printing process for the revision exercise will be carried out from June 5 to 14, while Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will undertake house-to-house visits from June 15 to July 14, 2026. Rationalisation of polling stations is scheduled to be completed by July 14.

The draft electoral roll for Arunachal Pradesh will be published on July 21, followed by the period for filing claims and objections from July 21 to August 20. Disposal of claims and objections will continue till September 18, and the final electoral roll will be published on September 22, 2026.

The ECI stated that the SIR is a participative exercise involving electors, political parties and election officials. Political parties have been urged to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at every polling booth to ensure transparency and wider participation in the revision process.

As per official figures, Arunachal Pradesh currently has 8,87,607 electors as on May 12, 2026. A total of 2,288 Booth Level Officers and 3,131 Booth Level Agents will be engaged in the SIR process across the State.

The poll panel informed that Phase-III of the SIR will cover 16 States and three Union Territories across the country. With the completion of this phase, the intensive revision exercise will cover almost the entire country excepting Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, where schedules will be announced later after considering Census activities and weather conditions.
