CAU-KVK East Siang organises workshop on balanced use of fertilizers at Pasighat

Pasighat, May 18: CAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Siang successfully organized a one-day district-level awareness workshop-cum-campaign on “balanced use of fertilizers” here, with participation from more than 80 farmers representing 13 villages of East Siang district.

The programme was chaired by Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering and co-chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner T Pertin in the presence of Dean-CHF Dr L Wangchu and Dean-COA Dr Sanjay Swami. The event was organized in cooperation with Gumin Megu, Member, BOM-CAU, Imphal and Kaling Jamoh, President, BJP Kisan Morcha, East Siang.

Welcoming the participants, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK East Siang Brijendra Singh Rajawat highlighted the importance of judicious and balanced use of fertilizer to reduce unnecessary expenditure and lessen dependence on imported chemical fertilizers.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Ninong Ering stressed the importance of crop rotation and multiple cropping systems for maintaining soil health and promoting balanced fertilizer use. He also advocated the selection of crop varieties requiring lower fertilizer inputs while maintaining productivity. During his address, the MLA assured support for establishing a farmers’ hostel at KVK East Siang.

Speakers including Gumin Megu and Kaling Jamoh encouraged farmers to adopt bio-fertilizers and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers. Managing Director of Green Harvest India Biotech Pvt Ltd, A Islam, called for stronger collaboration between government and private agencies to promote balanced fertilizer practices and improve agricultural productivity.

District Agriculture Officer Opang Moyong spoke on various Govt schemes related to Integrated Nutrient Management for improving soil fertility, while Dr Wangchu and Dr Swami encouraged farmers to undertake regular soil testing to assess nutrient profiles and reduce excessive fertilizer use. They also recommended green manuring and organic fertilizers for sustainable farming.

ADC T Pertin highlighted the need for sustainable fertilizer management to ensure long-term agricultural growth in the region.

Following the inaugural session, technical sessions were conducted by resource persons from KVK and CHF Pasighat, including Dr AS Maillappa, Dr P Debnath, Dr Ajay Kumara KM, Dr Dinesh Kumar, Dr Toge Riba, and Dr Milind B Katare. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Toge Riba.
