Bridges washed away, houses damaged in Upper Subansiri floods

Itanagar, May 22: Severe damage to infrastructure and property has been reported in Nilling and Giba circles of Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh, following flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall during the early hours of Thursday

According to preliminary on-site inspection reports received from administrative officers and affected areas, several key infrastructures, houses, agricultural fields, and livestock suffered extensive damage.

Among the major damages reported, an RCC bridge at Nyo Koro near Ningping village under Nilling circle was completely washed away. The bridge served as a vital PMGSY connectivity link between Chetam circle and several villages under Nilling circle.

In Ningping village, seven kutcha houses and one pucca house were damaged due to the flash flood. Agricultural fields and livestock losses have also been reported from the area.

Another bridge connecting Longte village and Giba circle headquarters was also washed away, cutting off road connectivity to villages located beyond Wrge village. Extensive damage to agricultural fields, horticulture gardens, and livestock has also been reported from various affected locations.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation, and detailed assessment of damages is currently underway, the district information and public relations officer informed.

Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued an advisory, urging people not to venture into rivers for fishing or collection of fish, firewood, and driftwood brought by floodwaters, citing serious risks to life and property.

Authorities informed that restoration of connectivity and relief measures are being initiated on priority basis.
