ABK seeks HM intervention in arrest of anti-drug campaigner

ITANAGAR, May 22: The Adi Ba:né Kébang (ABK) has appealed to the Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh to immediately intervene in connection with the arrest of Gumin Mize, president of the Arunachal Anti Drugs Warrior, by Bihpuria Police Station in connection with Bihpuria PS Case No. 72/2026.

In a representation submitted to the Home Minister on Thursday, the ABK stated that Gumin Mize is widely known across Arunachal Pradesh as a committed social activist and anti-drug campaigner who has worked extensively for the welfare of youth and society.

ABK said that through Arunachal Anti Drugs Warrior, Mize has actively participated in awareness drives, rehabilitation support, community mobilization and anti-drug campaigns across several districts of the State. It added that his efforts in combating drug abuse have earned him public goodwill and recognition, particularly among the youth.

It said that Mize’s arrest has triggered widespread concern among civil society organisations, youth bodies and the general public of Arunachal Pradesh. Considering his long-standing social service and public engagement, the ABK noted that the matter deserves fair scrutiny and appropriate legal assistance to ensure justice is not compromised.

In its appeal, ABK requested the Home Minister to intervene with the Govt of Assam and concerned authorities, ensure that Mize is provided all legal safeguards and fair treatment under the law, and direct the concerned departments to closely monitor the case to prevent any miscarriage of justice. It also sought support for facilitating his release on bail at the earliest possible opportunity.
