Pasighat, May 24: The acclaimed theatre production “Black Sunshine” was successfully staged here at the IGJ Higher Secondary School auditorium on Friday last, delivering a strong message against drug abuse through the medium of performing arts.
The programme was presented by Dr Delong Padung under the banner of the Karpung Karduk Centre for Folk Performing Arts, East Siang, and witnessed an overwhelming response from the audience.
Chief Councillor of Pasighat, Tagom Padung, attended the event as the chief guest, while East Siang Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba graced the occasion as guest of honour. Other distinguished attendees included ABK president Tanon Tatak, Assistant Director of Industries Anima Gammeng and former APPSU general secretary Tobom Dai.
Artists and performers of the Karpung Karduk Centre delivered a powerful theatrical performance highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and the urgent need for social awareness and collective action to combat the growing menace.
The packed auditorium reflected strong public appreciation for the initiative, with audiences lauding the impactful presentation and meaningful social message conveyed through indigenous theatre and performing arts.
The organisers informed that “Black Sunshine” is part of a pilot project aimed at touring different districts of Arunachal Pradesh to create awareness and strengthen the fight against substance abuse through theatre-based outreach programmes.
The initiative also acknowledged the vision and support of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein towards promoting a drug-free Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Tagom Padung praised Dr Delong Padung for his continued efforts in preserving folk culture and indigenous performing arts while effectively using theatre as a platform to address important social issues.
