Itanagar, May 26: State Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik emphasized the need for strengthening legal education, research and institutional discipline to contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, during his visit to Jarbom Gamlin Govt Law College (JGGLC) at Jote on Tuesday.
The Governor, accompanied by Education Commissioner Amjad Tak, Higher & Technical Education Director Milorai Modi, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Lobsang Tsering and Principal of the college Dr Gijo George, visited various sections of the campus and reviewed the institution’s infrastructure and academic activities.
Addressing students, faculty and officials, the Governor stressed that the State’s only government law college should focus on strengthening legal research, community legal outreach, technology-driven legal education and ethical leadership. He highlighted the importance of studies related to constitutional governance, cyber laws, indigenous rights, environmental protection, border issues and tribal rights, while also encouraging active Legal Aid Cells and AI-assisted legal research.
Emphasising discipline, integrity and constitutional values, the Governor expressed confidence that the institution would emerge as a beacon of justice, knowledge and human dignity through quality legal education and public service.
He said the goal of law is justice and noted that legal education carries the responsibility of promoting fairness, truth and service to humanity. Urging students to treat law as a public trust dedicated to justice for ordinary citizens, he encouraged them to pursue the profession with passion, empathy and ethical commitment.
Referring to developments such as digital courts, e-filing and virtual hearings, the Governor said the legal profession has become increasingly relevant in the modern era and called upon students to combine legal knowledge with social sensitivity and integrity.
Addressing faculty members, the Governor stressed the need for academic excellence, innovative teaching methods, research, mentorship and institutional discipline. He also urged the college fraternity to uphold originality, integrity and commitment towards excellence in legal education.
Sharing his observations about the campus, the Governor noted that the quality and maintenance of infrastructure require improvement. He appealed to students, faculty and staff members to work collectively towards creating a cleaner, greener and academically vibrant campus environment.
Education Commissioner Amjad Tak also addressed the gathering, while Principal Dr Gijo George briefed the Governor on the activities, achievements and commitment of the institution towards advancing legal education in the state.
