AR commemorates 10th Balidan Diwas of Hangpan Dada with cultural evening, wreath-laying ceremony

Itanagar, May 26: The Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles commemorated the 10th Balidan Diwas of Hangpan Dada, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), with a series of programmes in Tirap district, including a cultural evening and a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the brave soldier’s supreme sacrifice and enduring legacy.

As part of the observance, a cultural evening programme was organised at Towang Lowangdong Auditorium at Borduria village on Monday. The event paid tribute to the courage, dedication and selfless service of Late Havildar Hangpan Dada, whose sacrifice in the line of duty continues to inspire generations.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, civil dignitaries, administrative officers and security personnel. The event was attended by Borduria-Bogapani MLA Wanglin Lowangdong, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran, Additional Deputy Commissioner Namneet Singh, Superintendent of Police Aditya, Zilla Parishad Chairperson John KK Matey and Commanding Officer of 6 Bhairav, Lt Col Khulbhushan Sharma, along with other dignitaries and administrative officers.

The cultural evening featured patriotic songs, skits and a documentary screening portraying the life, bravery and sacrifice of Late Hav Hangpan Dada. Family members and close associates of the braveheart also shared emotional reflections, paying tribute to his enduring legacy and remembering his courage and unwavering commitment towards the nation.

On Tuesday, a wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the memorial of Late Hav Hangpan Dada at Borduria to mark the occasion. Floral tributes were offered by MLA Lowangdong, DC Techu Aran, SP Aditya Singh, Deomali ADC B Tawsik and Chasen Lowang Dada, wife of the martyr.

Officers, troops and local residents joined in paying homage to the brave son of the soil in an atmosphere filled with pride, gratitude and emotion. Speakers recalled that the sacrifice and patriotism of Late Hav Hangpan Dada continue to inspire the nation and serve as a timeless example of courage, selfless service and devotion to duty.

The commemorative programmes concluded with a collective pledge to uphold the ideals of patriotism, unity and nation-building exemplified by the Ashok Chakra awardee.
