NCW Chief leads women empowerment, policy review programmes in Ziro

ZIRO, May 28: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar on Thursday led a high-level delegation to Ziro for a series of programmes focused on women’s empowerment, digital inclusion, leadership development and policy review in Lower Subansiri district.

The visiting NCW delegation was accorded the status of state guests by the Arunachal Pradesh Government during the tour. The visit was coordinated by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) under the leadership of its Chairperson Yalem Taga Burang.

The day’s activities began at Kalung Panchayat Hall, where the delegation reviewed the Yashoda AI initiative aimed at leveraging technology to address challenges faced by mothers and frontline workers. The programme highlighted the role of innovative digital tools in improving access to services and support systems at the grassroots level.

The venue also hosted the “She Serve” programme, which focused on encouraging women’s leadership in public service and community governance. Participants engaged in discussions on leadership, participation in governance and strengthening women’s roles in decision-making processes.

Later in the day, the delegation visited Hari Government Secondary School community hall, where awareness sessions on various central and state government welfare schemes were conducted in collaboration with health and livelihood departments. The interaction saw participation from village elders, women and local residents.

The visit concluded with a review meeting at the District Secretariat in Ziro, where Rahatkar and the NCW team held discussions with senior district administration and police officials regarding law and order, women’s safety and the timely handling of cases related to crimes against women.

The meeting also emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to ensure a secure and supportive environment for women across the district.

The NCW Chief, who is on a three-day office tour to Arunachal Pradesh, will chair the Mahila Jan Sunwai at the Itanagar Deputy Commissioner’s camp office at IG Park here on Friday. The Jan Sunwai is being organised to provide women with a direct platform to present their grievances and seek immediate support and redressal.
