Siang holds two-day awareness program on SUMP

BOLENG, May 28: In a continued effort to strengthen “regional understanding” of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), a two-day public awareness and community engagement programme was successfully conducted across the villages of Pangkang.

Spanning May 25 in Pangkang (Jorkong) and May 26 in Pangkang (Kumku), the initiative witnessed active participation from multiple villagers and households. Participants engaged deeply in discussions centered around infrastructure, regional development, and community welfare associated with the project.

The grassroots drive commenced at Pangkang (Jorkong) on May 25, focusing on public understanding of SUMP’s potential developmental benefits. The session was held in presence of Tamyo Mingki, president of the Village Development and SUMP Development Committee. Meaningful public interaction was further encouraged by the attendance of Tamo Jerang, vice president SUMP, and Omak Tali, secretary VDC.

Building on this momentum, the outreach continued on May 26 at Pangkang (Kumku). Ensuring absolute clarity in project leadership and representation, the event was held in presence of SUMP Development Committee chairman Bakin Tali and vice chairman Omin Tamut.

At both venues, the organizing teams facilitated open interaction sessions, providing multiple villagers with the opportunity to directly raise queries and share local insights. To ensure transparent communication and sustained understanding, comprehensive SUMP information booklets were distributed among the villagers by the respective leadership following the discussions.
