Itanagar, May 30: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik called for ensuring timely and uninterrupted flow of credit to the agricultural sector, small-scale enterprises, cottage and village industries, artisans, and rural entrepreneurs to strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s economy and promote inclusive development.
The Governor made the observation during a meeting with General Manager-cum-Officer-in-Charge of NABARD Regional Office, Itanagar, S V Ranga Rao, at Lok Bhavan here on Saturday. The meeting focused on strengthening rural livelihoods and enhancing economic opportunities for farming and rural communities across the State.
Highlighting the pivotal role of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in promoting sustainable agriculture and integrated rural development, the Governor advised officials to ensure that financial assistance reaches all key sectors that contribute to rural growth and self-reliance.
Referring to his recent interaction with women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Boleng, the Governor said that the women of Arunachal Pradesh are hardworking, resilient, and enterprising. He noted that with proper guidance, skill development, and access to financial resources, they can become powerful agents of socio-economic transformation.
He urged NABARD to continue supporting grassroots initiatives and community-based enterprises, particularly those led by women and youth.
Emphasising financial inclusion as a cornerstone of rural development, the Governor called for strengthening microfinance institutions, SHGs, and rural banking networks to ensure that financial services reach underserved and economically weaker sections of society.
“Empowering rural communities, particularly women and youth, through accessible credit and livelihood opportunities is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh,” he said.
GM Rao assured the Governor that NABARD would continue to work with dedication and commitment to fulfil the aspirations and expectations of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly those from rural and agrarian communities, through focused developmental interventions and financial support initiatives.
