Op Dawn 2.0: East Siang Police arrests woman, seize 1.3 kg suspected ganja

Itanagar, May 30: The East Siang Police, under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, apprehended a woman allegedly involved in drug peddling and recovered suspected ganja during a search operation conducted at Oyan village under Sille-Oyan Police Station.

According to police, the operation was launched on Friday following credible information received regarding the illegal sale of suspected ganja in the village.

Acting on the input, a police team was constituted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police and in-charge of the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) Ayup Boko. The team was led by Sille-Oyan Police Station Officer-in-Charge, SI Yike Lomri, and included SI A R Doley, L/SI Kiryum Taipodia, ASI Tajing Tamuk, head constable Katin Mingki and constable Amor Hemi.

Accompanied by Executive Magistrate and Circle Officer of Sille-Oyan, Dubom Apang, the team conducted a search at the residence of Totong Pegu in Oyan village that led to recovery of approximately 1.3 kilograms of suspected ganja, including the weight of plastic packaging, from the possession of Opera Pegu, wife of Totong Pegu.

The seized contraband was weighed, packed, sealed and documented in accordance with legal procedures. The entire search and seizure process was videographed to ensure transparency and adherence to due process.

The accused was subsequently apprehended and the seized contraband was handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action. Police registered a case under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway.

East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba commended the efforts of the police team and reiterated the district police's zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any illegal activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial in achieving a drug-free East Siang district.
