Remembering Late Lummer Dai on His 86th Birth Anniversary

| Lungkang ERING |

Before writing anything, I would like to make it very clear that this article is not intended to hurt the sentiments of any society, association, students' union, or any individual. It is merely the personal opinion of an innocent boy from Boying village, Pasighat... Lungkang Ering. I sincerely hope that nobody will take my words in a negative sense.

Today (01.06. 2026) marks the 86th birth anniversary of Late Lummer Dai, one of the greatest sons of Arunachal Pradesh and a pioneer of modern literature and journalism in our state. His immense contribution to literature, culture and journalism has brought pride not only to the Adi community but to the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh.

On this special occasion, I noticed that his birth anniversary was being observed with great respect. Many respected and learned personalities, including Retired DMO Dr Kaling Dai, Yai Obang Dai, and others, were present to pay tribute to the legendary writer. I also observed the use of the Assamese Gamosa during the celebration..!

This is not a criticism of the Assamese Gamosa or the Assamese people..!! In fact, I salute the Assamese community for the deep respect and honour they continue to show towards our beloved Late Lummer Dai. Their admiration for his literary achievements is truly commendable and worthy of appreciation..!!

However, a question came to my mind. Why should the responsibility of celebrating such a great personality be left only to a few relatives, close associates, or individuals? Why should it not become a grand occasion celebrated by the entire Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh?

Late Lummer Dai was not an ordinary man. He was a visionary, a literary icon and a source of inspiration for generations..!! Yet, the gathering commemorating his birth anniversary appeared relatively small compared to the greatness of the man being remembered...!!

Therefore, I humbly request organizations such as the Adi Baane Kebang (ABK), ABK Youth Wing, AdiSU and other social and cultural bodies to take stronger initiatives in commemorating the birth anniversaries and legacies of our great leaders and pioneers. Such occasions should be celebrated on a larger scale, involving the entire community and especially the younger generation.

By doing so, we can inspire future generations to follow in the footsteps of great personalities such as Late Lummer Dai, Late Daying Ering, Late Tagoli Jamoh, Late Kuttik Moyong, Late Onyok Rome and many other distinguished sons and daughters of our land...!! Their achievements have brought glory to Arunachal Pradesh and contributed significantly to the nation..!

If we truly honour their legacy, more young minds will be encouraged to dream big, work hard and dedicate themselves to the progress of society. This will help produce future leaders, scholars, writers, administrators and visionaries who will continue to illuminate the name of Arunachal Pradesh and India before the world..!!

On this 86th birth anniversary of Late Lummer Dai, let us remember not only his remarkable achievements but also our collective responsibility to preserve and celebrate the legacy of those who shaped our history...!!
