Over 100 take part in induction training under NALSA’s CPLV scheme

ITANAGAR, Jun 2: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) successfully organized a Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) induction training programme at the District Jail, Jully here under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

Over 100 participants took part in the training programme under Convict Para Legal Volunteer (CPLV) Scheme, an initiative of NALSA aimed at extending legal aid services within prison establishments.

The participants were apprised of the role of CPLVs in identifying inmates requiring legal assistance, disseminating legal awareness, facilitating communication between prisoners and legal aid authorities, and assisting in the effective implementation of welfare and rehabilitation measures. The scheme serves as an important mechanism for ensuring access to justice for incarcerated persons and safeguarding their legal and constitutional rights.

The inaugural session was attended by DySP CT Lombi, followed by screening of four documentaries produced by APSLSA highlighting various legal awareness initiatives and public welfare activities for the participants.

APSLSA member secretary Tadu Tamang highlighted the importance of APSLSA documentaries which include Drug Abuse, POSCO, Domestic Violence and Elderly Right and entitlement to free legal services to the weaker sections of the society, policy programme and various NALSA mandated schemes.

The induction featured insightful sessions by distinguished resource persons including, Adv Techi Nech, Legal Aid Counsel and Adv Amit Saring, Chief LADCS.

They deliberated on the role and functions of Legal Services Authorities, free and competent legal services, Legal Aid Clinics, duties and responsibilities of PLVs, prisoner rights, support schemes for poor prisoners, NALSA helpline 15100, the Legal Services Mobile Application,  NALSA’s Early Access to Justice initiative at the pre-arrest, arrest and remand stages, the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2024, and significant judgments of the Supreme Court relating to the rights of arrested persons and prisoners.

The programme concluded with an interactive session that included practical exercises, enabling participants to clarify doubts and deepen their understanding of legal services delivery.
